October 2025 Mintlayer Development Update

Happy Halloween from the Mintlayer team! In a month known for tricks, we brought the treats, unveiling two public testnets alongside a core release that pushes atomic swaps toward mainnet and gives builders and users practical products to explore as we maintain momentum toward the upcoming upgrade.

Let’s break down the highlights, from public testnets to the core upgrade.

RioSwap Public Testnet

RioSwap is live on testnet. It is a BTC-native cross-chain DEX that uses HTLCs to enable direct Bitcoin swaps without wrapped assets, bridges, or custodians. The current build showcases order-based trading, wallet connection with Mojito, and end-to-end swap flows for early testing. We are collecting feedback on UX, pricing, and settlement reliability ahead of mainnet.

MintFun Public Testnet

MintFun is the evolution of our Token Factory. It lets anyone create tokens on Mintlayer quickly, without code, and is open source so teams can use, fork, and improve it. The testnet release supports fast creation for MLS-01 style fungible tokens, basic metadata, supply settings, and simple distribution flows to help communities experiment. Share feedback so we can refine presets and guardrails before mainnet.

Mojito Browser Extension

Mojito returned to the Mozilla Extensions store. The latest version adds HTLC support, with backend work ongoing to simplify flows. SDK examples now include a Bitcoin atomic swap sequence for developers.

Explorer

No major changes this month. Minor fixes and performance optimizations were shipped.

Core Node v1.2.0 Release

Core Node v1.2.0 is now live. It includes order handling improvements, security upgrades, and API and wallet updates for atomic swap order flow. All node operators must upgrade to remain compatible. A mainnet hard fork is planned for approximately January 21, 2026.
